Résumé

“Mediated Architecture for Social Constructions of Futures” (MASCoF) is a research project concerned with architecture, digital communication media, and power relationships. In the age of social media, short texts, renderings, and short videos of urban projects are circulated on digital communication platforms to communicate their interpretations. Media content is periodically distributed on such platforms to construct these projects in media space. Powerful actors use these mediated constructions as vehicles for disseminating and sustaining conversations about controlled narratives of futures to targeted audiences. This presentation will share the proposed methodology and some preliminary findings of a pilot study related to MASCoF. Some preliminary findings derived from empirical research pertaining to the communication of a selected case study will be presented.

Nadia (Nina) Alaily-Mattar is senior research fellow at Maison de la Création et de l’Innovation (MaCI) of Université Grenoble Alpes. An architect with a Master of Science degree in Housing and Urban Regeneration from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a PhD in Planning Studies from University College London (UCL), Nina currently is a researcher and lecturer at the Chair of Urban Development at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Her research revolves around elite architectural practices, the interplays of architecture and media, and the role of architecture in urban transformation processes. Mediated Architecture for Social Constructions of Futures (MASCoF) is the current focus of her research activities and the topic of her fellowship at MaCI.
